How Genders Work : Producing the J.Crew Catalog by Muhlhauser and Bradbury explains how each gender should be represented in the J.Crew catalog. It is broken up by categories such as language or minds.
For example, fonts play an important role at how women and men need to be shown. The fonts must be skinny for a picture of a woman. Representing a woman as little and dainty. The fonts for a man must be bulky and thick, showing that they are strong. In context the women should be one of two poses, either on a couch (which represents a sexual ecstasy for women) or in a plain area with no backdrops/props (representing a dream like scene in which they don't actually exsist). For men, making a snapshot photograph or having props and a backdrop, it feels as if the men are important or know thier surroundings.

In Cyborgs in Comic Books: Alternative images of cybernetic heroes and villans.Mark Oehlert talks about the "Golden Age" to the "Marvel Age." He breaks the later-day Cyborgs into three main categories- simple controllers, bio-tech integrators, and genetic cyborgs. Simple controlers represent simplicty- as in Wolverine, and removable- as in Iron Man. The Bio-tech integrators are not removable, and not fully explained. This category would include Cable (from X-men) and Weapon X. The most interesting of the later-day comic book cyborgs are the genetic cyborgs. They have a primary power, and are controlled through a genetic code. A good example of this would be Captain America. Superman, Spiderman, Flash, and the Hulk would be described as accidental figures.

Definitions:

Golden Age- time period in the comic book world-from 1939-1950. The first golden age comic character was Superman.

Cyborg Age- the present comis book time, with the maturing of heroes.

Simple Controllers- comic cyborgs who represent simplicity, or removability.

Cyborgs- comic caracters that are a mix between man and machine.
